Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Morning Shift Senior Care Assistant to join our dedicated team at Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) in Ile-Ife. This crucial role involves providing high-quality, person-centred care to our elderly patients during the morning hours, ensuring their comfort, safety, and well-being. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in elderly care, excellent communication skills, and a genuine passion for making a positive difference in the lives of seniors.
Key Responsibilities
• Assist patients with morning routines, including personal hygiene (bathing, dressing, grooming), toileting, and mobility.
• Administer prescribed medications under the supervision of a registered nurse, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
• Monitor and record vital signs, observing and reporting any changes in patients' physical or mental condition.
• Provide companionship and emotional support, engaging patients in stimulating activities.
• Assist with meal preparation and feeding, ensuring patients receive adequate nutrition and hydration.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for patients.
• Document care provided accurately and promptly in patient records.
• Support rehabilitation exercises and mobility assistance as instructed by physiotherapists.
• Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
• Respond to patient calls and emergencies promptly and appropriately.
Required Skills
• Proven experience as a Care Assistant, preferably in a senior care or hospital setting.
• Strong understanding of basic first aid and emergency procedures.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to empathize with and provide compassionate care to elderly individuals.
• Proficiency in monitoring vital signs and basic patient observations.
